SUNBURY REMEMBERS
2021 marks 100 years of the Royal British Legion supporting the armed forces community. It is also 100 years since the start of The Poppy Appeal.
Sunbury Royal British Legion Branch together with other members from the community are working to ensure Sunbury marks Remembrance Day in the most fitting way possible given some unavoidable changes and we would like to thank the Rotary Club of Shepperton & Sunbury and their stewards for coming on board to help.
As a consequence of the changes we are not in a position to organise a full parade in Sunbury this year but hope to do so again in 2022. At the time of writing, details for this year are still being finalised with Spelthorne Borough Council and we will make this known as soon as possible.
Mel Searle, Sunbury’s Poppy Lady, along with her small team of fundraisers have also been en-couraging businesses and local organisations to get involved by sponsoring a Tommy statue to mark 100 years of The Poppy Appeal.
At the time of going to press we have had sponsorship and pledges from the following organisa-tions for Tommy statues: Crick Heitman Accountants. Knights Glass. Lodge Bros. Rigby Golding Solicitors, Spelthorne Sports Club, Stephen Searle Transport and Tesco. We have also had community sponsorship from individuals and we thank them for their generous support.
More details of this year’s appeal can be found on the Sunbury Poppy Appeal Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/melanie.searle.52. If you would like more information on any of the above, please call Mel Searle on 01932 785836 or email sunburypoppy@outlook.com.
