I am writing from my own experience and opinion here, but I hope the essence of what I feel makes some sense.
I wonder if you know of a great charitable scheme offered by Amazon and available to us all.
I am scandalised at the clever tax arrangements that many tech companies seem to have in place. To see these multi-billion worth companies pay a paltry amount of tax is just not right.
But here is something that makes me feel better about the situation! Amazon Smile works in exactly the same way as Amazon. You still get your Amazon prime and nothing looks any dif-ferent to the site you usually use. There is one significant difference though. If you place your order through smile.amazon.co.uk, your purchase will bear with it a charitable donation (0.5% of the price of eligible purchases) from Amazon to a charity of your choice. It costs you NOTHING, but it can make a huge difference to a charity.
I have nominated the Swan Sanctuary. I recently received a statement saying that they have just received a quarterly donation of £45.56 from AmazonSmile. No, that is not my donation, that is a total donation for the quarter. To be honest that is a drop in the ocean. Since its inception, AmazonSmile has donated over £9 million to UK charities. In the words of AmazonSmile
“ When you shop at AmazonSmile, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as amazon.co.uk, with the added bonus that Amazon will do-nate a portion of the purchase price to your selected charity.” Have a look at the smile.amazon.co.uk website to read more about it. Think how many of us DON’T use the smile.amazon.co.uk portal, instead using the more familiar amazon.co.uk. All you need to do is log on to smile.amazon.co.uk, nominate a charity and then make all your purchases through that site. Genius! The more of us know and can spread the word, the more some of our smaller local charities may benefit.
