For over a year now we have all had to spend most of our lives at home, under lock down, with a short stroll to the shops or a brief walk round the block. With changes starting to happen and life beginning to slowly return to normal, the Rotary Club of Shepperton and Sunbury are pleased to announce the opportunity for anyone and everyone to join in a ten kilometre sponsored walk around the ‘Waterways of Shepperton’. It also provides a great opportunity for your favourite charities, whether local or national, to benefit by receiving much-needed funds – every step you take could help make money for some very worthy causes.
A regular feature of our Clubs annual calendar pre the pandemic, it is exciting to be able to offer the opportunity for our local community to join in a great local event, under full safety conditions, to enjoy an active and interesting day out in the (distanced) company of others.
You need to book your place in advance by emailing catherineblack@hotmail.com so entry numbers can be managed. On the day of the walk, Sunday 4th July, participants should arrive by 9.30am in Manor Car Park, Shepperton ready for a 10.00am departure. Arrangements are made with Spelthorne Council to allow free parking in the car park for participants.
Shepperton and Sunbury Rotary will provide Walk Leaders and End Walkers so no one gets separated or lost. We will also provide marshals around the route, to help you cross the roads, and aid people should they have any problems. The Club will also supply drinking water.
The whole event will be run Covid secure.
There is a £6 entry fee per person to cover the or-ganisational costs but no extra charge made by Ro-tary. We will ask you to let us know how much money you have raised for your charity so we can gauge the success of the whole event.
If the current rules should change, and the Government or Rotary guidelines tell us that we are unable to run the sponsored walk again, we will ask you all to walk a 10km Sponsored Walk yourselves – either round your garden multiple times, or by completing a guaranteed 10km within your own neighbourhood. This will allow everyone to still raise the much-needed funds for their preferred charity.
