Local Rotary Club and Shahin help support others worldwide coping with Covid

On Thames Street in Sunbury on Thames, you’ll spot the Shahin Indian restaurant that has been serving cus-tomers in and around the area for a very long time.

When the owner, Shubin Ahchanuhaq spoke to Rotarian Geoff Williams, what neither realised was that it would lead to one of the restaurants biggest ‘take-away’ deliv-eries … to Bangladesh.

Fortunately it didn’t require the dedication of a young motor scooter delivery person to get it there.

Shepperton and Sunbury Rotary Club were delighted to donate £500 to the restaurant and the money was then sent to Shaleswar a village in a dis-trict called Sylhet in Bangladesh. It was used to purchase much needed food for a country struggling not only with medical health provision for its citizens coping with Covid but also a lack of basic food supply.

The delivery seen here in the picture shows enough food to feed fifty-five families for a week.

So if you would like your humble one night take-away curry to make a difference and help those less fortunate in other parts of the world, may we suggest you help Shubin and his team and buy it from The Shahin to support their kind and generous work. Rotary are proud to support our local community reach out to others, wherever they are.
