Village Matters

Edward, Mrs Simpson, and Freda

For your FREE entertainment on Saturday 18th July 7.30pm Riverside Players of Sunbury are proud to present the premiere of this historical drama, with a very local flavour, written by local playwright Geoff Buckingham. And it will be available free of charge to readers of Sunbury Matters and can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home on Zoom!

The play covers the two major romances in the life of Edward 8 , and the events that lead to his dramatic abdication in December 1936. This full length play examines the impact of World War One, the social changes, political intrigue and the build up to World War Two .

It examines the friction between Edward and his family and Stanley Baldwin’s Government. It also features Wallis Simpson and Freda Dudley-Ward, the latter of whom lived virtually opposite our very own Riverside Arts Centre! The cast includes many local favourites, including a few former professionals. Attendance is free of charge and you do not need to book in advance, simply tune in to listen using the Zoom details below. Audience will be admitted from 7.20pm for a 7.30pm start. Make sure you get there early as spaces are limited, and will be filled on a first come first served basis.
