Surplus to Supper is a local charity that has been operating since 2017, helping to bridge the gap between food waste and food poverty. It distributes fresh surplus food from local supermarkets and businesses to Foodbanks and other organisations. It has also raised money from the sale of ready meals, corporate lunches and fundraising dinners (all using surplus food) which has been used to buy supplies and equipment for many local charities.
In early April we launched the Community Box scheme in partnership with Sunbury Neighbours and London Irish RFC. Using the team room at the London Irish training ground in Hazelwood Drive as a base, we collected surplus food from local businesses such as Tesco and Costco. Every Friday we have delivered around 100 boxes of surplus food and ‘treats’ to those Sunbury neighbour clients in isolation and local families in need, using volunteer drivers from Sunbury Neighbours and London Irish. We just wanted to let you know that although you may be in isolation – YOU ARE NOT ALONE. We have also delivered tons of fresh surplus meat and vegetables each week to organisations offering freshly cooked ready meals, such as the London Irish scheme for the NHS workers, the Real Junk Food Project in Twickenham and Stanwell Foodbank.
As we are unable to raise money through our normal operations, we are looking for donations from local residents and businesses to help us cover our costs. Please see our Facebook page or email: Andrew.osborne@surplustosupper.org.
