Everyone has been moved by the dreadful situation in Ukraine. We want to do our little bit. That was so obvious by the outpouring of generosi-ty in the village a couple of months ago when you donated goods to send to support refugees fleeing the con-flict.
Dave and Elaine Boyce decided to do their bit too. They had been having a clear out of their loft. Lots of forgotten treasures that they were happy to pass on. Neighbours were inspired to add to the haul. So one glorious Sunday they set up a stall outside their house on Chertsey Road, complete with bunting and lots of goodwill. The idea was for people to take whatever they wanted and make a donation which would be passed directly to support Ukrainian refugees.
In the end, Dave tells me that they raised over £750. “Everyone who passed put some money into the collection, whether or not they took any items. It was incredible”. The money was giv-en to a family who has been accepted in Walton on the Homes for Ukrainians scheme – a moth-er and her two children . She had had to leave her husband behind to fight. The money donated would make such a difference to their lives and the family was overwhelmed at the generosity.
