A New Year ‘Walk & Talk’ could mean new connections, new friendships, a new direction
The great majority of us will have had a special time this Christmas and been able to share some happy times with family and friends, but for people who have been recently bereaved it might have been a further sad reminder of the loss of someone close to them.
Birthdays, anniversaries and annual celebrations are milestones that can reinforce the loneliness and loss that people feel when a close loved one has died.
The people who work at Princess Alice Hospice are well aware of the impact bereavement can have on individuals and how, after such loss, it is important to find the support of others who can truly empathise with their feelings.
St Nicholas Church and Princess Alice Hospice, established a Bereavement Café several months ago and so far it has grown steadily in numbers offering support and a listening ear to help individuals begin re-building friendships to those who have been experiencing difficult times.
The café is run by local volunteers trained by Princess Alice Hospice and offers a safe, warm and friendly atmosphere where people can come and talk or just be with someone who understands their feelings and the daily challenges they face.
This January, the St Nicholas Bereavement Café in Shep-perton are adding a new option for those who wish to join them.
In January there will be an alternative option for those who prefer to Walk and Talk. The first walk is planned for the morning of Monday January 17 when volunteers will lead a flat, circular walk lasting around forty five minutes and ending at a refreshment point.
The walk will go ahead in all weathers so be sure to dress accordingly!
‘Walk and Talk’ sessions have taken place through Princess Alice Hospice in other areas for over six years and have helped many people adapt to new circumstances. Taking the first few steps may be difficult but the benefits are many.
If you would like to join them or need more details, just call St Nicholas Parish Office on 01932 221621 between 10.00am and 12.00 noon on weekday mornings or leave a message giving your name and contact details and you will be called by one of their Volunteers.
