Lord’s Bridge Pond (above) is on Halliford School land to the west of Church Road, across the road from Manor Park. This unique local ecological and environmental space is sheltered and populated with lots of native plants which support the wildlife there. Work has taken place occasionally over the decades, most recently a sympathetic clean-up a few years ago led by Sam Lew, a former pupil of the school and now sustainability consultant, to manage the older growth and allow the area to regenerate naturally.
SVCG is a small group of volunteers who promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the village. Our core ongoing work is to plant, water and maintain the flower beds and pocket park at the end of the High Street. From time to time we support specific appropriate projects and so were involved in that last work at the pond.
This year local resident Martin Thomas approached us about continuing Sam’s work.
However, as the picture shows, there’s a lot to do, far more physical work than we can manage on our own and we need outside help for Martin.
So if you fancy getting stuck in and making a difference locally with like-minded people, our next work morning will be Saturday morning, 18th September 10.30 – 12.30. Please wear wellies or stout shoes, gloves and suitable clothing to protect against brambles, etc. We can supply some tools but do bring your own secateurs and, if you have them, loppers. Refreshments are provided.
If you have any questions, please either see https://www.facebook.com/sheppertonvcg or email office@sheppertonvcg.uk.
Do come along! A project like this not only supports the local environment; it’s also great fun with a huge sense of achievement for those taking part.
