By Barbara Unsworth, Big Tree Night Committee
The Big Tree Night Committee would like to take this belated opportunity to extend Happy New Year wishes for 2021 to you all. To overcome the diffi-culties that Covid 19 have presented we still have challenging times ahead of us. With the vaccination being rolled out we are given hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel be it a long one!
As you are all too aware Big Tree Night was not possible for 2020, the first for me in 11 years!
However, a very willing small team of volunteers were able to organise the usual display of Christ-mas Tress above the shops and around the village. It most certainly brought some cheer to the High Street together with Big Tree illuminated in all its glory!
The shops that were able to open entered the festive spirit of decorating their windows. The window dressing competition went ahead as usual with the winner normally being announced on Big Tree Night.
After much deliberation and judging during the day and in the twilight hours the winner was decided.
I was delighted to be able to present the window dressing winning shield for 2020 to JAMZ!
Jon, Maz and Tammy opened Jamz back in Sep-tember 2020 and have been a welcome addition to the village. Their window design encapsulated the spirit of the village and bought a smile to many passing folks during these difficult times. On a very cold day I managed to take a picture of Maz and Tammy, Jon was not for venturing out of the shop! Congratulations JAMZ and when Timpson’s re-open I will reclaim the shield and have your name added to the list of winners!
Finally, can I say special thanks to Alan Green-wood and Sons for displaying the nativity scene that St. Nicholas Church usually display on Big Tree Night. It was a welcome reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.
Stay safe and take care all.
