Village Matters

Sunbury & Shepperton Beat

By Inspector Maxine Cilia

Moving towards Christmas and a time to feast and celebrate and watch lots of TV, or are some of you think-ing that’ what I have been doing through-out Lockdown any-way!

But some people have been busier than others getting out and about in stolen and cloned vehicle committing burglaries and stealing Catalytic Converters.

We have had some great interventions and arrests stopping vehicles, arresting burglars and recovering vans and catalytic converters. But we must not be complacent and maybe if you are spending more time at home, its an opportunity for you to review your security measures.

Think about whether you have adequate light-ing, recording CCTV, Smart lights or door-bells. Even simple things such as leaving lights on timers can assist in making you home look like someone is in at night. Other considerations may be, ensuring your side gates are locking and not giving easy access to the rear garden for burglars, moving your wheely bins so they are not easy ‘ladders’ to hop over the fence, and ensuring your garden tools are locked away. Remember to not put your Christmas Presents on show to burglars if you are out of you property for periods of time and conceal identifiable boxes for expen-sive items when putting out recycling.

We are still working with the Local Housing Associations and Spelthorne Council at reduc-ing the ASB in Sunbury Cross by designing out crime and fixing some of the key issues at some of the residential blocks of flats. and have been successful in 4 arrests which have reduced the amount of ASB. However, we still urge all members of the public to keep reporting Anti social behaviour and incidents to us so that we can continue to manage it efficiently.

Other considerations throughout the Winter months ;

Are your elderly neighbours OK, do they have access to regular food deliveries and support? If you are concerned you can contact you can contact us on line or via 111 or local adult services Surrey County Council 0345 600 9009.

Are you aware of a local family struggling to make ends meet and needing further support, they can be referred by certain agencies for support via the local food banks and social services also and also charities such as Home start Spelthorne.

And lastly, lots of people are suffering with their mental health through this year. Please look out for those you know may be behaving in a different way to usual , become very reclusive, or simply not looking after them-selves in an appropriate manner. It may be you can refer them to their local GP to get assistance, however again if you are worried please take a look at the link where you can access Mental Health Services. https://www.sabp.nhs.uk/our-services/mental-health/community-services/CMHRSrunnymede
