It is with great sadness that we have no viable alterna-tive to the cancellation of Shepperton Big Tree Night (BTN) celebration this year. Therefore, Big Tree Night will not take place in 2020.
This has been brought about by the current uncertainty regarding any future Covid-19 infection rates in the lead up to Christmas and our ability to properly man-age and monitor the event on the night.
With a potential crowd size of anything between 5,000 and 7,000 people, it would also – in all probability – not be allowed by the authorities. From the organis-ers’ point of view, it would be impossible to guarantee viral safety for everyone at all times – i.e. social distancing outside of family “bubbles” and continual sanitisation between the various activities in the High Street.
This, of course, includes Santa, his Elves and the Reindeer …. although I am reliably informed that he will still be as busy as always on Christmas Eve! – So, no need for anyone – young and not so young – to despair on that front !
However, CHRISTMAS IS NOT CANCELLED in Shepperton! We will, once again, be adorning our shops in the High Street and surrounds with our usual Christmas Trees and Lights. This has become Shepperton’s traditional and, now unique, festive glow at Christmas!
We will be working on this from October through to the end of November – in time for the lights to be twinkling – including those on Big Tree, of course – on December 1st.
CHRISTMAS will be switched ON in Shepperton in 2020! BTN Committee
