Lords Bridge Court is a development of 38 individual apartments with residents mostly over the age of 75. When the government announced a Lockdown, many of us had no idea exactly what that would mean. Once we realised we would not be allowed to go to shops, supermarkets and pharmacies we started to wonder how we would manage.
We soon realised that the wonderful Shepperton Community would come to our aid. A neighbour in Mervyn Road called Karen approached our Manager and offered help. A group of ladies and one husband have formed a group of shoppers called Buddies and Brigitte our manager arranged a Buddy for each group of about 6 residents so that everyone had a volunteer to get shopping, collected medication etc. Because the supermarkets were inundated with people grabbing not only toilet rolls but all the home delivery slots, these people were a Godsend.
Of course eventually the pharmacies and volunteer drivers plus local shops started to offer deliveries but they too were often overwhelmed. So our team of Buddies were very important to us. They have never let us down and are always at the end of a telephone.
As things are gradually easing we are hoping to become the independent and lively group that we were before the Pandemic. Our grateful thanks to Karen, Jenny, Debbie, Jenny, Linda Jane and not forgetting Jane’s Husband, Dave, who has shopped and delivered along with the oth-ers.
We feel lucky to have these wonderful people as our neighbours.
