Walks around Shepperton

By Monica Chard

Many of us have taken the time during lockdown and permitted exercise, to go and discover areas of Shepperton which we have never ventured to. I noticed a post on social media where people were offering ideas of their favourite walks. I took part in the Rotary’s Waterways of Shepperton walk some years ago and discovered the pathways between the lakes formed from the old gravel pits. In the summer you can see sailing boats from Littleton Sailing Club on the largest lake. Fishermen enjoy the tranquillity of some of the other lakes and dog walkers stride out with purpose.

Nature has claimed it’s place here, with a multitude of birds and brambles. I know where I will be picking blackberries very soon!

You can access public pathways from both Sheep Walk and Fairview Drive, then just see where the paths take you. You can get lost, but you will never be far.

We discovered a network of old tunnels on our walk, we understand relating to the M3 construction to allow water to drain.
Where have you been walking? Do let us know your favourite walks. Send a short description and photos to monica@villagematters.co.uk.
