Spelthorne Borough Council are committed to supporting our most vulnerable households and, over the winter, we are providing finan-cial assistance via the government’s House-hold Support Fund (HSF) grant scheme.
The Council will be providing funds via one-off payments ranging from £50 to £80, de-pending on the household’s situation, as de-tailed below:
£50 per household for over 70s
£60 per household for 18-69-year-olds with-out children living in the home
£80 per household for families with children at home
Approximately 60% of the funding will be channelled to households with chil-dren and up to 40% is available for vul-nerable households without children, including individuals and senior citi-zens. Regarding the type of support, the expectation is that the HSF should pri-marily be used to support households in need with food, energy and water costs. In order to qualify for this payment, households must receive certain bene-fits, for example Universal Credit or pension credit. Full details of eligibility will be on our website alongside the application form.
This new grant will run to 31 March 2022 and nationally totals £500m. Of this, £421m will be for councils in Eng-land. Spelthorne has been allocated ap-proximately £300,000 by Surrey County Council from the funding received by Surrey.
Cllr Sandra Dunn, Chair of the Commu-nity Wellbeing and Housing Commit-tee, said: “This Council recognises the plight that many of our families face, especially going into the winter months and we want to use this funding to support as many families in need as possible. If you are dealing with food or fuel poverty, we urge you to get in touch with us about this fund. This is a Council that cares for its residents and working towards a future where none of our residents are cold or hungry during the winter months.”
