Sunbury came together to remember the fallen. In dry weather and a change to the normal programme, uniformed groups gathered in Cedars Recreation Ground shortly before the wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial. The organisers would like to thank all those who contributed to making the day so memorable: the youngsters representing their uniformed groups and their leaders and volunteers; 862 Sunbury Squadron RAF Air Cadets for their support; Sunbury Royal British Legion Branch; St Mary’s Choir, Staines Band and Options Technology for the music and PA system; the volunteers behind the scenes who enabled social distanc-ing; photos from alula.media; The Admiral Hawke for providing meeting space and refreshments; the officers and staff from Spelthorne Borough Council; and St John Ambulance, members of the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency and The Rotary Club of Shepperton & Sunbury who assisted with safety on the day. Whilst this year saw a limited service take place, it is hoped that the full parade can happen in 2022. Separately, we raised funds from the commu-nity for 13 statues and, with the help of the Neighbourhood Services team, these were located around Sunbury. Thanks to Knights Glass, Lodge Brothers, Crick Heitman Accountants, Rigby Golding Solicitors, Stephen Searle Transport, Jim Gazzard, Spelthorne Sports Club, Tesco, Jacqueline’s Garden, U- Drive Cover Ltd and individuals from the community who donated. A big thank you to the whole community for supporting the Poppy Appeal in their 100th Anniversary year. We hope to see you all in 2022!
