A Decade of Success for Sunbury’s Walled Garden

Spelthorne Borough Council is honoured to announce that, for the 10th year running, the Sunbury Walled Garden and Staines Ceme-tery have been awarded Green Flag status.

This international award is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Cllr Richard Barratt, Portfolio Holder for Parks and Open Spaces, said: “We are delighted the Sunbury Walled Garden and Staines Cemetery have, once again, been recognised by Green Flag. Our parks team dedicate their time to ensuring our green spaces are well maintained and welcoming for the public, while also showing due respect to those who are no longer with us. This prestigious award is a testament to their hard work maintaining these sites. Our ambition for the future is for further green spaces to achieve this award.”

The historic Walled Garden in Sunbury Park was built in the early part of the 18th Century. Fol-lowing years of neglect, Spelthorne Council em-barked on a restoration project of the two acre garden in 1985.
