During lockdown, lots of us have come to realise how important exercise is to look after our physical and mental health. Keeping healthy has never been more important.
Elmbridge Borough Council is launching a public consultation from 15 September to 31 October to inform their new Physical Activity Strategy for 2021-2026.
The strategy will aim to tackle inactivity across the borough and focus on the wider benefits of regular exercise and participation in physical activity.
It is important for us to gather residents’ views on what factors prevent them from exercising and what would motivate them to become more active. We can then try and break down existing inactivity barriers and identify long-term, sustainable solutions to address the root of the problem.
Help us to give everybody the opportunity to get fitter and healthier, doing activities they enjoy and that can easily fit in their everyday lives.
This 5-year strategy is not about trying to engage inactive individuals in competitive ‘sport’ but rather inviting them to move more and more often to improve their physical health and mental wellbeing.
Councillor Janet Turner, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said, “We believe that all Elmbridge residents should have access to and enjoy taking part in physical activity, whatever their circumstances or abilities. As well as keeping you physically healthy, it benefits your mental health and gives you the opportunity to meet new friends within the community. Participation in physical activity is also a great motivator to overcome life’s challenges and barriers.”
