We have all noticed and admired the small piles of coloured stones which have appeared in public over the summer. 12 year old Darcie Bateman decided to go one step further and do something special in the lockdown. She started hand painting stones and offering them in exchange for dona-tions to charity from outside her home in Green Lane. The decorated stones all painted by Darcie were displayed on the front wall with a mes-sage that all donations would be forwarded onto Cancer Research UK. Thanks to all who contributed and made this such a suc-cess, and to Darcie for such lovely designs and thoughtfulness, an unexpected pleas-ure.Our local Rotarian Eric Painter brought this initiative to the attention of our members who awarded a Rotary Youth Initiative Award, presented by Chris Leighton.
