Sunbury Beat

So Schools are back in September, well hopefully. And I believe it is really important to get kids into routines and education. It surprising how many children still do not have routines, safe homes and an environment where they can be nurtured and thrive. We would welcome ideas from the local community on how we can better engage with our Spelthorne child and young people. We have been out patrolling with Youth Workers and we aim to try to do this throughout the school holidays and in areas where we see high amounts of anti-social behaviour. Please report on line, by telephone or Facebook any concerns you may have about a child or young person in Spelthorne.

As some readers may be aware Spelthorne Police have been successful in winning a Government Grant for £547,000. This is part of a Safer Streets Campaign and the application was built on strict criteria. This criteria was mainly about the amount of acquisitive crime. In this case Stanwell will be the key benefactor and the money will go to improving security measures in some housing in the Northlands Estate. We are very excited about this project and the Stanwell area will see great benefits.

I hope some of you have seen the video recently that was made about the Anti- social behaviour in Sunbury Cross. This is now much better thanks to the hard work of my officers who have stopped numerous youths, taken them home, advised their parents and many have been issued anti-social behaviour contracts by our youth engagement officer which give key guidance around curfew times and expectation around behaviour. Breaching this contract is the first step towards a Criminal Behaviour Order but our key aim is to keep young people out of the Judicial system and give them a chance to change their behaviour.

Watch out for our teams who are getting out and about with “Meet the Beats” outside and socially distanced. We are interested in your local opinions and what is important to you, so please pop along and let us know.

So we are heading for a change in daylight as we move towards the autumnal days. With that crime patterns change and we start to see an increase in burglary as always. Please take this opportunity to review your security in you homes, garages and sheds. Check your alarms and look at devices for the winter months such as timers for lights, removing valuables from sight, not putting on social media when you away from you home or out. Also please look at securing expensive bikes and tools in garages and sheds and installing security lights and or CCTV such as recording lights or doorbells as a cheaper option.

So your will be pleased to know that we have now employed two more Police Constables for Spelthorne Safer Neighbourhood Team and one more Youth Engagement Officer. We have also now finally recruited a full complement of 12 PCSO’s some of whom are still training but hopefully you will start to see them all out and about.
