This surely is the most charming front door in Sunbury. Pomfret Cottage has always enchanted me when I have walked past. It is a grade 2 listed house which is thought to originally date from the Restoration Period with later additions from both the Queen Anne and Georgian Periods. ‘Pomfret Cottage’ got its name from the 1st Lord Pomfret who is said to have lived at ‘Pomfret House’ and to have owned the surrounding land.
It was rented or borrowed by Edward VIII, Prince of Wales for his visits to Monksbridge.
There are a multitude of features, taking you back to the time when the building comprised two cottages. There is a first floor drawing room which has three floor to ceiling sash windows. You will find wood panelling, coving and imposing fireplaces. Befitting a properly of this type, there is also a walled garden.
